It will then be easy to understand the impact that gun control has because the information on the website is from credible sources.

Doeden, Matt. Gun Control. Minneapolis: Twenty-First Century Books, 2012. Print.

This book has effectively examined American history with regards to gun ownership as well as the existing local, state and federal laws. It has gone on to provide the perspectives and opinions of ordinary Americans, activists, historians and government leaders on the two sides of this controversial issue. Furthermore, the book was supplemented by the many discussions, anecdotes, and quotes from pages found in USA TODAY. This is regarded as the number 1 newspaper in the nation, and therefore this book will surely broaden the understanding of its readers.

All the sides of the issue being discussed have been provided and this will help me with forming an opinion on whether I will be against or support gun control. It will even be easy to know about why gun laws need to be strict in order to ensure people with mental illnesses, criminals, as well as children to do not have access to guns. It is now wondered that Americans are divided concerning this issue and this book will help me to analyze all the perspectives of gun control.

This is an official website that has information on the Brady Campaign, which seeks to prevent the ever-increasing gun violence in America. This website is often viewed as being a rival to the National Rifle Association. The two have for a long time been opposing each other on certain gun control bills and an example is a McClure-Volkmer bill. The structure of this website has an impressive color of red, which signifies power. This website seeks to ensure that the viewer is informed about all the issues that concern gun ownership and control. The viewer can participate in any of the events organized by the Brady Campaign such as lobbying or giving donations.

This website had given attention to individuals as they have made an attempt to discuss gun control in quite a dramatic way. The figures of people that have been shot today and this year are included in the website. The Brady Campaign website will provide me with a good perspective on why people need to lobby for gun control. Also, I will be able to gain information about organizations that are against gun control in America.

Squadron, Daniel. Stop Blocking Gun Control. New York Daily News, 4 Oct. 2012. Web. 3 Dec. 2013.<http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-1004/news/34243304_1_gun-lobby-gun-violence-gun-owners&gt>

This source has information on gun violence that has been affecting the city of New York as well as other parts of America for quite some time. The author of this article has given an example of Albany that has for some time contemplated on bringing back some of its state legislators so that they can effectively debate on the issue of gun violence and gun control. They want a solution to be found so that gun violence can come to an end. A lot of effort is being put to ensure that New York will have the toughest laws on gun control in America.

It is no wonder that the Republicans and Democrats in America are working together to ensure that gun control is a reality. This source is also quite helpful as it gives examples of what is being done in neighborhoods to ensure that gun violence is brought to an end. The bills in New York proposed that the definition of assault weapons needs to be given a broader definition. This article found in the New York Daily News will provide me with the current legislation on gun control in the state of New York.

Langbein, Laura & Lotwis, Mark. “The Political Efficacy of Lobbying and Money: Gun Control in the U. S. House, 1986.” Legislative Studies Quarterly, 15, 3 (1990): 413-440.

This journal article by Laura Langbein and Mark Lotwis has researched the effects that campaign contributors and lobbyists have on various government bills, and the one in focus is on gun control. The specific bill that has been researched is the McClure-Volkmer bill, which is about the federal reforms that focus on firearms as well as what is being done to loosen them. According to the authors, the Congressional and House votes are affected by organizational and elite lobbying. Also, research was done on the impact that was felt by the gun control bill by the National Rifle Association. It was found out that the only lobby organization that had an impact on the bill was the Brady Campaign as opposed to the NRA. However, this article was written a long time ago, but it still is relevant in with regards to the current debate and legislation on gun control.

McCartney, Claire. Q&A: Should Mental Health be part of the Gun Control Debate?. Global Post, 21 Feb. 2013. Web. 3 Dec. 2013. <http://www.globalpost.com/dispatches/globalpost-blogs/global-pulse/gun-control-mental-health>.

This online source has provided information on an interview that Dr. Reid Meloy a forensic psychologist had with the author of this article. Dr. Meloy was giving his opinion concerning the national debate on gun control and its relation to mental health issues. Meloy believes that people who have mental illnesses should not be allowed to have guns as they are responsible for many gun violence crimes in America. The interview is reliable because Meloy has worked for the CIA and FBI, and he has also written books concerning the issue being discussed. I believe that this source will give me the needed information on why mentally ill people should not own guns. This will assist me in knowing more about the opinions of experts who deal with people who have mental problems and still have access to guns.

Jones, Meghan. Violence Can’t be Solved with New Gun Controls. Standard-Examiner, 7 March. 2013. Web. 3 Dec. 2013. <http://www.standard.net/stories/2013/02/25/violence-can-t-be-solved-new-gun-controls>.

The online article by Meghan Jones is about how new measures on gun control cannot sufficiently bring gun violence to an end in America. Jones has specifically dwelt on what President Obama has to say concerning this matter as he has the ultimate decision in giving accent to gun control laws. Some excerpts from Obama’s recent speech on banning guns have been provided in the article. Obama made a suggestion that more background checks on individuals have to increase as well as banning assault weapons. The key point that this article is addressing is that there is a direct correlation between American violence and the laws on gun control. Therefore, this article will assist me as I have information about the opinions of the president concerning gun control.

Callahan, C. et al. Urban High School Youth and Handguns: A School-based Survey. Journal of the American Medical Association, 10 (1992): 3038.

This article is about the gun violence that has been taking place in American schools, mostly because there are no proper gun controls. The authors of this journal article chose to address the issue at hand by focusing on the root cause of the problem. The authors believe that legislators do not want to come up with proper gun laws and this has made the youth and young adults’ lack values and morals. Americans seem to accept and condone gun violence because they have gun control laws, which have failed. This article is useful to me as the research question has been covered throughout and there is enough statistical data.

Kathleen, Heide. Juvenile homicide in America: how can we stop the killing?. Behavioral Sciences & the Law, 15, 2 (1997): 203-220.

This journal article analyses why the United States has had an increase in juvenile homicide. The author has found out that lack of proper gun control laws is the main cause of this problem. The author also chose to focus on other contributing facts to this issue while conducting the research. They are a cumulative effect, personal characteristics, resource availability, societal influences, as well as situational factors. Since the research was carried out in the year 1997, it helps in providing information for the project. It is evident that since then a lot has not changed in reducing juvenile homicide rates in America because of inefficient gun control laws.

Kessler, Glenn. The NRA’s claim that Joe Biden’s gun advice is illegal. The Washington Post, 25 Feb. 2013. Web. 3 Dec. 2013. < http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/the-nras-claim-that-joe-bidens-gun-advice-is-illegal/2013/02/25/854b8ca2-7df3-11e2-9a75-dab0201670da_blog.html>.

This online article by Kessler is about the information provided by Joe Biden concerning gun control. On the other hand, the National Rifle Association is opposing the claims made by Biden as they believe that individuals have the right to own the rifles they want. There is enough information about, which guns are most suitable for defense among private owners of guns. Also, information regarding the differences between shotguns and assault rifles, as well as which one is suitable for home invasions has been provided. This article will assist me because I will know how to refute the claims presented by Biden concerning, which gun is suitable for self-defense, in a home invasion situation.

Broner, Ethan. The other States and Other Times Would Have Posed Obstacles for Gunman. New York Times, 24 Jan. 2012. Web. 3 Dec. 2013. < <http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/25/us/other-states-and-other-times-would-have-posed-obstacles-for-gunman.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&>.

This article by Ethan Broner is about the Colorado massacre that took place in a movie theater. In turn, it sparked up debate about some of the thoughts of representatives involved with the debate on gun control. Bronner wanted to find out what would have happened if James Holmes the shooter would have attempted to buy a gun in other states with tough gun control laws. It is quite logical that the massacre would not have taken place because he would not have had the right to purchase a gun. A Duke University professor in public policy, as well as a gun control advocate Philip Cook, has made his knowledge concerning this issue on gun control known. His competence and research on the matter will be of great benefit to my project.

Bennett, Matt. Why Gun Control isn’t a lost cause. Washington Post, 8 Nov. 2012. Web. 3 Dec. 2013.<http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/gun-control-wont-go-anywhere-in-congress-right/2012/07/27/gJQAt8dwDX_story_1.html>.

This article has provided a discussion on why American citizens believe that by having tough enforcement, gun crime will reduce drastically. Also, it has addressed the fact that it will be quite difficult to carry this out as Americans own over 300 million guns. Bennett informs the reader about the power that the NRA has because it has been able to overturn many gun control bills. This article will be useful to me because it gives information on why gun control laws need to be implemented in order to get rid of gun violence.

National Rifle Association. 3 Dec. 2013. Web. 3 Dec. 2013. <http://home.nra.org/>

This is the National Rifle Association’s official website and it is a known organization that it against anti-gun control. The viewers of the website can obtain articles concerning this issue as well as other matters on gun control. This source provided the needed insight into why the organization does not support gun control. It believes that gun laws need to be minimized and it has provided its argument to those who believe that gun control has increased because of the organization. Therefore, this source will be of extreme benefit to in coming up with information that will be needed in finishing the project.
