By 1998 the company was already making a profit, and received a big break in 1999 when a character in a movie wore an Under Armour undergarment (Terry, 2010). After that, more orders started to flood in and Plank used that money to take out an ESPN Magazine advertisement. That ad brought close to 3/4 of a million dollars in sales – and nine years after starting up the company, Plank was able to add himself to the payroll. Under Armour’s headquarters are in Baltimore, Maryland, but it also has a European headquarters in Amsterdam. Additionally, there are offices in Denver, Toronto, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou (Terry, 2010). In 2007, the first retail store was opened, followed by another one in 2008. More North American stores were opened that same year, followed by a recent opening in Scotland. There are teams and players all over the world who now wear Under Armour clothing.
Company Problem
The company has few problems, it would seem. However, if one had to be located it would likely be that Under Armour mostly caters to athletes. There are many professional athletes in the world, but there are far more ordinary people who like to purchase athletic clothing and casual apparel. Because of that, the company’s marketing analysis shows that it is missing out on a large portion of the market with which it could get involved.
