Robert Frost Poetry and Bio Analysis discussion

Robert Frost was an accomplished American poet who portrayed New England’s life more realistically. Frost achieved this through the use of situations and language familiar to the mortal. In the United States, he is a poetic force and the unsanctioned ‘poet laureate’. In his sophomore forty years of his life, Frost was gravely unknown. Even though he surfaced on the scene post returning from England, at the beginning of the first World War; Frost’s family life holds much to reflect on. Therefore, the following section seeks to focus on Frost’s family life and history, under the umbrella heading: Robert Frost Biography.

Family Biography

Early years of Frost reveal he first stepped into the world on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, California. His first decade and an extra year were spent at his birth city. He considered changing places for the first time post the demise of his journalist father, Precott Frost Jr., who succumbed to tuberculosis. Together with his mother and Jeanie, his sister, they moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts. His grandparents also accompanied them and Frost was enrolled in Lawrence High school.

Frost was Harvard University schooled in the inaugural phase of 1897 but was forced to drop out two years down the line following health complications. He then returned to Lawrence to join the love of his heart. Later on, in 1900, Frost moves with his wife and children to New Hampshire to occupy a farm his grandfather had procured for them. It while on this family property that twelve years down the line Frostendeavored to make a living from it. Although the latter period was a success in the writing art, it was a double tragedy in his personal life, as his two toddlers expired.

The time spent on the farm saw Frost and his wife, Elinor attempt numerous farm ventures among them poultry farming, which collectively often hit the dead, grew futile and unsuccessful. Above all the farming odds, he accustomed to rural life depicted it pretty well and commenced setting most of his poetry work in the countryside.

The history of Frost and his wife, Elinor White, dates back to when both were at Lawrence High School. During their graduation, White was his co-validation in 1892.  While attending St. Lawrence University, she turned down Frost’s proposal on the ground that she wanted to finish school. Frost then opted to take a trip to Virginia and on his return, he tried his luck once again. Having been graduated, White seamlessly bulged and they tied the knot on 9th December 1895. White breath her last in 1938 after a cancer diagnosis in 1937, before this, she had undergone several surgeries as she exhibited a long history of heart problem, which ultimately, she succumbed to.

Frost and White were blessed with six souls. Eliot the eldest was born in 1896. A daughter, Lesley in 1899. It’s Eliot who died of cholera in 1900 and afterward Elinor ushered four more progenies: Caro, son in 1902, and who took his own life in 1940; Irma in 1903, and whom after became a psycho; Marjorie in 1905, who passed away in her twenties post giving birth and Elinor in 1907, who died weeks after birth (Blackwell).

Although Frost is depicted as funny competitive, and smart about his poetry career and reputation,  throughout his fame the above-mentioned horrible family misfortunes that plagued him; he was blamed for tragedies he was destitute to prevent. Form his side Frost fought personal bouts with what he termed, the grippe with hard work. But he flourished on the outdoor toil (Parini).

Poem Analysis

In his prominent and prolific poetry work, Frost was an inspiration and indeed a leading voice of the new poetry in words of H. William. Following his acclaimed acceptance of his work which profoundly influenced lives, Frost was inspired to soldier on and produce good quality poems like “ The Road Not Taken ”. In the poem ” The Road Not Taken “,  Frost expounds on indecisivequagmire caused by the dilemma to personally make the satisfactory right decisionin line with one’s will and vision.

While the poem depicts the author standing in the woods and faced with the challenge of which path to take, and would lead him to his willed destination; the indecisiveness unfolds in the subsequent line “And sorry I could not travel both”(Frost). He is conceding the impossibility of traveling both roads as he openly admits. In this regard, he has to make a decision that shall see him reach or rather achieve his preferred and purposed destination. The paths before Frost appear to be worn-out with untrodden vegetation covering them. He opts to take either way with the hope he shall take the other someday, though he can’t vividly tell the point and time at which he shall take, as illustrated by: “Then took the other, as just as fair”

In the clause “I shall be telling with a sign… I took the one less traveled by” in the last verse, Frost implies that next time,  when he remembrances the decision he made, he shall twerk it a little bit as he claims in the above verse he embarked on a less-traveled path.

Thus, the poem discourses challenges in life, as well as numerous problems, which depict different approaches folks, embrace to make the right decisions and choices. It strongly reveals that some of the decisions people embark on may have great implications that redefine a situation.Furthermore, “ The Road Not Taken ” articulates the belief that people have the free-will to choose their fate as the result is a choice and chance of the routes they settled on.

To imply the decisions and crises that arise and inevitable to encounter, Frost adopts metaphorical figures of speech when he uses paths in the woods and forks in the roads. Daily and along the road of living, people face trying times at one point or another. The manifestation of these difficulties can be comprehended through conflicts and crises. Nonetheless, a decision must be formulated to ensure you meet the primary intention.

Conclusion

It’s obvious as daylight that Frost had a long life that forced a bitter pie down his throat based on his misery and losses. He had no power to prevent the depression, suicide and early deaths suffered by his father, sister and most of his children. He is a distinction as he drew a line between his crises and accomplishment as a poet. He must have been revealing his life in poetry what turned out to be inspirational and educational. In his poetry works fire and the houseand road not taken Frost proves to be pessimistic about his ideology at the end of the world. Nevertheless, one can confidently affirm that through his works Frost held a firm belief that it’s essentially significant to acknowledge the beauty of life above any difficulty one may face.
